About Me

Hi, I’m Isabella…

Welcome to my kitchen! I’m the heart behind The Real Food Home Kitchen, and the attentive Chocolate Labrador you see by my side is Lilly. While I care about the nuances of “real food,” Lilly is… well, less of a foodie. She is our official “Head of Floor Management,” sitting patiently (and very optimistically) in case her services as a food hoover are required.

I started this site because I was tired of needing a chemistry degree just to understand the ingredients list on a jar of pasta sauce. I wanted a way to cook that was doable for the average person, vegetable-forward without being vegetarian, and – most importantly – free from the ultra-processed ingredients that have crept into our daily lives.

I’m not a professional chef; I’m a home cook learning right alongside you. Together with Lilly (who is always ready for a taste test, UPF-free or otherwise), I’m here to show you that cooking from scratch can be simple, rewarding, and truly delicious.

My philosophy is simple: let’s eat the rainbow – using Tim Spector’s slogan. This isn’t about giving up meat or fish. It’s about rebalancing our plates so that vibrant, flavour-packed vegetables take centre stage, supported by quality proteins and healthy fats. It’s the way our grandparents intuitively ate, and it’s the way modern nutritional science now guides us towards better health.

Food as Medicine: My Inspiration

I am a firm believer in the power of “letting food be thy medicine.” Like many of you, I have been deeply inspired by the work of pioneering doctors and nutritionists who are uncovering how much our health depends on what we put on our plates. I’m on a mission to create meals that help support long-term wellness and prevent lifestyle-related issues, all while being incredibly satisfying.

A Gentle Note from Isabella: While I am a dedicated researcher and an avid follower of modern nutritional science, I am not a doctor or a trained nutritionist. I use the brilliant books and studies from experts as my compass and inspiration in the kitchen. The information I share here is based on my personal journey and culinary exploration. Always consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, especially if you are managing a medical condition.

But I know it can be daunting. What do you do with miso? Which tofu should you buy? How do you make a simple traybake look amazing and taste delicious?

That’s where this site comes in. It’s the bridge I wished I had. I am learning right alongside you, sharing the tips, techniques, and ingredient guides that build confidence in the kitchen. Together, we’ll demystify herbs and spices, explore global flavours, and prove that cooking real food from scratch is one of the best and most rewarding things you can do for your health.

So, have a look around. Let’s roll up our sleeves and discover how exciting real, flavour-packed home cooking can be.
