Hi, I’m Isabella…
Welcome to my kitchen! I’m the creator of The Real Food Home Kitchen, where I focus on fresh ingredients, straightforward cooking, and healthy meals that are quick to prepare — using ingredients that are affordable and easy to find in your local supermarket or online.
I started this site because I was becoming alarmed by how much ready sauces, ready meals and ultra‑processed foods had become an accepted part of our daily diets — tasting good, filling us up, but offering little real nutritional value. Even a basic pasta sauce seemed to have been created in a science lab. I wanted to return to a way of cooking that was practical, vegetable‑forward, and free from the ultra‑processed ingredients that dominate so many supermarket shelves.
I’m not a professional chef — just a home cook who believes that simple, real food can be affordable, achievable and delicious. My goal is to make cooking from scratch, with a minimum of ultra‑processed foods, feel possible even on busy days.
My philosophy is straightforward: eat the rainbow (as Tim Spector would say). Not by cutting out meat or fish, but by letting colourful, flavourful vegetables take centre stage, supported by good proteins and healthy fats. It’s the way previous generations naturally cooked, and it aligns beautifully with what modern nutritional science now recommends.
Food as Medicine: My Inspiration
II’m a firm believer in the idea of “letting food be thy medicine.” Like many of you, I’ve been inspired by the doctors, researchers and nutritionists who are showing just how deeply our long‑term health is shaped by what we eat. My aim is to create meals that support wellbeing and help prevent lifestyle‑related issues — while still being comforting, satisfying and full of flavour.
A Gentle Note from Isabella: While I’m an enthusiastic researcher and an avid follower of modern nutritional science, I’m not a doctor or a trained nutritionist. I use the brilliant books, studies and insights from experts as my guide in the kitchen. Everything I share here comes from my own experience and learning. If you’re managing a medical condition or making significant changes to your diet, it’s always wise to speak with a healthcare professional.
But I know it can feel daunting. What do you do with miso? Which tofu should you buy? How do you make a simple traybake look amazing and taste delicious?
That’s where this site comes in. It’s the bridge I wished I had. I’m learning right alongside you — sharing the tips, techniques and ingredient guides that build confidence in the kitchen. Together, we’ll demystify herbs and spices, explore global flavours, and prove that cooking real food from scratch is one of the most rewarding things you can do for your health.
So, have a look around. Let’s roll up our sleeves and discover how exciting real, flavour-packed home cooking can be.
Let’s get cooking.
